Working with Sustainable Materials
I have a passion for working with new materials and plan to continue to experiment with new ways of working within upholstery. I think that using healthier better quality materials has benefits for customers and for craftspeople as well as producing better quality furniture. I have already begun working with alternative materials such as micro pocket springs, coconut matting and felt, including Kvadrat Converts’ upcycled felt panels in the interior construction. Kokoslok is a premium, sustainable upholstery padding made from rubberized coconut coir (coconut husk fibers) and bonded with natural latex rubber
Spinks springs are advanced, miniature pocket and micro-coil spring systems designed by the British bed manufacturer Harrison Spinks to replace synthetic petrochemical foam.
Recycled felt from the Convert factory in Denmark is a core circular material component of Kvadrat Really, a brand co-owned by the textile manufacturer Kvadrat. Known commercially as Textile Felt, it is a high-performance acoustic and structural material engineered entirely from upcycled textile waste.
